Fall in Kralupy
So suddenly it's fall in the Czech Republic. The sweaters have emerged from hiding, evenings come with a subtle fireplace smell, and thick socks are once again loving my feet. Chilly sunny afternoons in the fall are the greatest. Rainy afternoons make thick blankets and good books that much more appealing... rolling off of the couch to teach English would not be my natural inclination on days such as these. However, I stand on the belief that God has a purpose for me here. Laziness doesn't accomplish anything.
In any case, allow me to submit my picks for the three greatest fall albums of the year... in no particular order.
Over the Rhine - Ohio
Patty Griffin - 1000 Kisses
Counting Crows - August and Everything After
Some of you (Joe Haack) may cringe at the inclusion of Counting Crows' debut album from the mid-90s. Deal with it. The album is amazing, and should absolutely be included in any fall rotation. Honorable mentions go to...
Dave Barnes - Brother, Bring the Sun
- Buy it, love it. I guarantee you'll find yourself singing in public places more often.
Mutual Admiration Society - Self Titled
- Nickel Creek and Glen Philips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. Took me a while, but I find myself coming back to it more and more.
Griffin House - Lost and Found
- Why don't you own this album yet?
I'm off y'all. Send me mail already.
